Two Virginia Museum of Natural History educators met 8 third through fifth graders in J. Frank Wilson Park to practice problem-based learning. Students were asked to tour the park and identify problems that they could be solved within a limited time frame. After identifying several problems, the students generated solutions to the problems. The group decided to restore a butterfly garden by planting several plants and spreading mulch. It was a fun time for all!

Two hundred seventy pounds of trash and debris were collected and removed from J. Frank Wilson Park on Saturday during a park cleanup and greening led by the Virginia Museum of Natural History, in partnership with the Southwestern Piedmont chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalists, the Uptown and Martinsville Rotary Clubs, Friends of Wilson Park, and the Interact Club at Bassett High School. Additionally, volunteers planted 5 dogwood trees and 8 barberry shrubs in a greening effort at the park. In total, 48 volunteers participated in the event.
